Maifest also known as Mayfest is a German traditional festival celebrated in Germany every year since 10thCentury. It is celebrated in the month of May.

This festival celebrates the arrival of spring . After heavy dark winter the spring comes with more light and nature. The nature is at its best in spring time. During this festival people plant, dance, play games and live music, cook and eat traditional German food. Sausages and sandwiches are served with sauerkraut, bratwurst, platter of roasted pork accompanied with chilled German beer. This festival is celebrated throughout the Germany. The maibuam also called maypole is decorated in May followed by a big procession. Maypole is a birch tree erected in the center and decorated with flowers and ribbons. In some places people also decorates it with food like sausages and cakes. People sing and dance around the maypole to show their excitement and happiness. Maifest is also celebrated in some countries outside Germany where there is a mark of German ancestry. Countries like Austria, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Britain, Canada and United States. |
