Major event on Whidbey Island

There are number of events, festival organized at Whidbey Island.

Feb-March : Langley's Mystery Weekend. For the weekend the Town of Langley turns into the setting of a fictional murder mystery.
March : Penn Cove Mussel Festival, celebrates the bounty of the sea, especially the mussel.
April : The Whidbey Island Marathon and Half Marathon
July : Loganberry Festival at the Greenbank Farm

July 4th : Maxwelton Beach Parade and fireworks show. Firework and parade address is southern end of Maxwelton Road at Dave Mackie Park.
July 2nd weekend : Choochokam street fair and arts festival. Address is downtown Langley.
Aug 3rd week : Whidbey Island Area Fair. Event has rides, food, and animal shows.
End of Aug : Wag'n'Walk. This festival is for celebration of dogs and related items. It includes games, competition, demonstrations and the Wag'n'Walk itself.

Summer (3rd week of July) : Whidbey Island Race Week: a week-long sailing regatta. Address is Oak Harbor with daily racing in Penn Cove and/or Saratoga Passage (depending on wind conditions). Usually held third week of July, varies slightly due to tidal conditions.
2nd Saturday of Aug : Whidbey Island Highland Games. Competitions in Scottish Heavy Athletics, Highland Dancing, Pipe and drum bands.
Whidbey Island Zucchini Festival - An annual festival hosted by residents of Whidbey island brought about by an excess of home-grown zucchini. The festival includes zucchini based musical performances, various types of zucchini based or themed visual art, all types of foods that feature zucchini, outdoor games and competitions using zucchini, and a giant zucchini slingshot.
End of Aug/Early Sep : Oak Harbor Music Festival.
Sep : Whidbey Island Kite Festival

September : Tour de Whidbey, is a bike race around Whidbey Island.

About the Island

Whidbey Island (earlier known as Whidby, Whitbey, or Whitby) is one of largest of the islands in Washington, USA.
Whidbey is about 30 miles (48 km) north of Seattle, and lies between the Olympic Peninsula and the I-5 corridor of western Washington.
It is home to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
The other large island in Washing state is Camano Island, It is located in east of Whidbey.

There is also a series of county operated parks throughout the Island.


Earth Sanctuary is a nature reserve. It is a sculpture garden and retreat center.
The ponds and bog fen complex have been designated as a �habitat of local importance�
